Community Policing Survey

Dear Community Members:

The Lakeport Police Department is releasing a community survey on Public Safety and Law Enforcement in an effort to get feedback on how the public believes we are doing with community policing strategies in our jurisdiction.

In July of 2019, we formally began additional community policing programs based on a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).  Although we have conducted community policing in various ways for many years, the COPS grant formalized some of our programs.  Specifically, our strategy was to work closely with and build partnerships with many community organizations and other groups including the residential and the business communities.

We know that by working together with the entire community, we can do a better job at solving problems and keeping the people within the City of Lakeport safer.  To this end we believe we have been making great progress; however we know that improvements can always be made.  To make the right improvements, it is important to have feedback from the community we serve.

If you are a resident; business owner; someone who works in, shops, uses the Lakeport schools or college; visits; or has any other connection to Lakeport we want to hear from you – this is your police department!

As Sir Robert Peel, the “Father of Modern Policing”, said in 1829, “To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police”, is believed to be true to this day by the members of the LPD.

We intend to use the data collected in the survey to better refine our community policing efforts and address the concerns most important to our community.

The Lakeport Economic Development Advisory Committee and students in Mendocino College Lake Center Police Community Relations class are providing assistance with the distribution and analysis of the survey.

The online survey can be found in both English and Spanish versions in these links: http://www.surveysoftware.net/hostss/lpdcs.htm and in paper copies that can be printed here: https://www.cityoflakeport.com/police/survey_-_community_policing.php

Completed paper surveys can also be picked up and dropped off at the Lakeport Police Station, 2025 South Main Street or Lakeport City Hall at 225 Park Street. Additionally, completed paper surveys can be faxed to 707-263-3846 or scanned and emailed to [email protected]

A report regarding the survey results will be released to the public upon its completion.  For more information about this project, contact Chief Brad Rasmussen by telephone at 707-263-9650 or email at [email protected]

Sincerely,
Brad Rasmussen
Chief of Police
