Twins Arrested this evening for Hilton Head Island vehicle break ins during last week's hurricane evacuation.

On September 3, 2019 --during the hurricane evacuation--  three male subjects were observed by residents of Woodlake Villas on Hilton Head Island, looking into and entering vehicles.

Following an investigation into the incidents, multiple arrest warrants were obtained for two of the subjects, Esteban Javier Rosa-Mendez and Carlos Esteban Rosa-Mendez, who are twins.  The twins are wanted for two counts of Breaking into a Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of Looting Under State Emergency and 2 counts of Petit Larceny. The Sheriff's Office seeks information from the public on their whereabouts.

This afternoon, Bluffton Police Department personnel located the subjects and took Esteban Rosa-Mendez into custody. Carlos Rosa-Mendez fled the scene and Sheriff's Office personnel conducted a search for him in the area of Tower Road which is between Buck Island Rd and Simmonsville Rd in Bluffton. The subject was not located at that time and the search was suspended for Carlos Rosa-Mendez.

Around 6:30 pm, residents of Vista View Apartments in Bluffton reported a suspicious person in the area. Deputies responded and the subject, Carlos Rosa-Mendez, was arrested. Both Esteban and Carlos Rosa-Mendez were transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center and incarcerated without incident.

We appreciate your partnership and continued commitment to the safety of our community.
