Two more arrests related to Sebastopol Homicide

This is an update to a homicide that occurred on the afternoon of Saturday April 21, 2018 where it is alleged that 18-year-old Sebastopol resident Anthony Ibach killed 19-year-old Sebastopol resident Cory Vaughn with a knife or some kind of cutting instrument during a fight.

Detectives located Ibach’s burgundy BMW on Tuesday April 24th in west Santa Rosa with the assistance of a social media follower. Through further investigation, detectives learned that after the homicide was committed last Saturday, Ibach went to his friend, (21-year-old) Joshua Cassidy’s, home in the 1500 block of Ludwig Ave in Santa Rosa. Cassidy, along with a third friend Shyzaha Thorpe (20 year-old Santa Rosa resident), drove Ibach to another friend’s home in San Rafael using Thorpe’s car, leaving Ibach’s BMW parked at Cassidy’s home.

Cassidy and Thorpe subsequently learned through media posts that Ibach was wanted for murdering Vaughn on Saturday. On Sunday, April 22nd, Cassidy and Thorpe drove back to Cassidy’s home and moved the BMW to an address on Yuba Drive in Santa Rosa and left it parked in that neighborhood. There was no connection on Yuba Drive and it appears to have been just left there.

Detectives have searched Ibach’s car and Cassidy’s home and have retrieved valuable evidence of the crime, which we can’t elaborate on. Detectives are asking that if anyone has any more information about the crime to please contact the Investigations Bureau at 707-565-2185.

Based on the new information that Cassidy and Thorpe assisted Ibach in his escape to Marin County, coupled with the moving of the car, both Cassidy and Thorpe were arrested and charged with accessory to murder. They were both booked into the Sonoma County Jail early yesterday morning and are being held without bail.
