Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a SR 13-year-old boy after he fled in a stolen car. The incident started shortly before midnight last night when a deputy spotted a Nissan Xterra in the area of Santa Rosa Ave and Petaluma Hill Rd. The deputy tried to make an enforcement stop for a mechanical violation but the vehicle sped away. The vehicle made several turns through the Barham, South A St and Earle St ultimately ending up on Rutledge Ave. Rutledge dead ends at a foot path and the driver drove down the foot path in the South Park neighborhood hitting several barriers designed to prevent vehicle access.
The driver came out onto Petaluma Hill Rd where he swerved his car towards oncoming deputies. The driver then made a left turn onto Aston Ave then a right onto Moraga reaching speeds of 60 mph. The driver recklessly hit several barriers and fences at the end of Moraga and ultimately came to a stop after hitting a light pole in the area of Amethyst and Tokay.
The driver fled from the car on foot and was able to avoid capture for some time. At about 1:00 AM a deputy, with the assistance of nearby neighbors, spotted the driver running from some bushes. The deputy gave foot chase and caught the driver by pushing him to the ground and getting him handcuffed.
The driver turned out to be a 13-year-old Santa Rosa boy who had just stolen the vehicle from his apartment complex. He was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries he sustained and was then booked into the Sonoma County Juvenile Hall on felony charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, assault with deadly weapon against a peace officer and felony evasion.
His name is not being released due to his age.
