Large Scale Training exercise
Thursday, August 8 at UM-D

On Thursday, Aug. 8 beginning at 10 a.m., the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Police and Public Safety Department and Office of Emergency Management are collaborating with the Dearborn Police and Fire/EMS Departments, Dearborn Heights Police, Michigan State Police, the FBI, Beaumont Health and other agencies to hold an active attacker exercise.

During the exercise there will be a large police, fire and EMS presence on the south end of campus in/around the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) building. In order to make this exercise as realistic as possible, agencies will be practicing various tactics and simulated gunfire will occur, anyone in the area should expect loud sounds and real movements of first responders.

The exercise will also allow the Dearborn Police and Fire/EMS Departments to demonstrate the Rescue Task Force (RTF) model to other local agencies. Dearborn Police and Fire/EMS are among the first departments in southeast Michigan that are utilizing this innovative approach that partners firefighter and EMS paramedics with law enforcement to effectively respond to the scene of an active threat. Entering a scene together to provide immediate medical care, triage patients, and evacuate casualties.
