Sexual Battery Investigation

On Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 Fairfield dispatch received a call of a sexual battery in the area of Hilborn road and Garden Meadow. The suspect was described as a black male approximately 20s of age, 5 foot 8, 150 pounds, wearing black tennis shoes, black shorts that went down to his knees, with a white T-shirt that had green writing on it, and a white face mask, jogging northbound on Hilborn Road. Thankfully the victim remained alert and tried to keep a distance as the suspect displayed suspicious behavior. After running past the victim twice he pretended to be on his cell phone while taking a knee, then began running again. As the suspect passed the victim a third time he reached out and slapped the victim on the buttocks and continued running.
 
On Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 Fairfield dispatch received a call of a sexual battery in the area of Fieldcrest & Hilborn. The suspect was described as a black male adult in his 20's wearing a gray sweat suit. The victim was also grabbed on the buttock before the suspect fled into the hillside towards Sanctuary.
 
Both cases are under an ongoing investigation. Fairfield Police Department would like to remind our community as we investigate this crime to please pay attention to your surroundings.

Crime Prevention tips:
•             When walking or jogging have a friend with you
•             Only care the money you’ll need on a particular day
•             Don’t display inviting targets such as cash, cell phones, or                    expensive jewelry
•             If you think someone is following you switch directions or        cross the street, if that person continues to follow you go into an open store or restaurant or lighted house and don’t be afraid to yell for help
•             Report suspicious activity to the Fairfield Police Department
•             Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions such as wearing headphones or talking/texting on a cell phone while walking.
•             Walk in well-travelled, well-lit areas.  Try not to walk alone whenever possible, especially after dark.
•             Know where you are going and the safest way to get there.
•             If you need to visit an automatic teller machine, try doing so during the day, if possible.
•             If you feel unsafe at any time, go to the nearest store or public place.
