Deputy Sheriff’s patrol vehicle broken into this morning in Bluffton, rifle stolen, incident under investigation. 
Early this morning, Friday, August 14, 2020, unknown subjects broke a window to gain entry to a deputy sheriff’s patrol vehicle in the driveway of an Alston Park residence in Bluffton. After entering the patrol vehicle, the subjects stole the deputy’s patrol rifle, which was not properly secured in accordance with Sheriff’s Office policy.
A command staff inquiry into the incident is being conducted and, upon its completion, recommendations for disciplinary action for policy violation will be forwarded to the Chief Deputy and Sheriff for their review.
The Bluffton Police Department is investigating the vehicle break-in and, as of the time of this advisory, the subjects have not been identified and the rifle has not been recovered.
