On June 16, 2020, at approximately 8:12 AM, the Middle Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 147 and Massachusetts Ave. in the Burleigh section of Middle Township.
Investigation revealed the vehicle driven west bound on State Highway 147 by Jerry Jorgensen, age 64, of Cape May Court House, struck the Garden State Parkway Overpass and then struck a residence on State Highway 147 before coming to a stop.  Jorgensen was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The overpass was struck by the hydraulic lift on the vehicle used for dumpsters.  There was one person in the residence at the time it was struck but they were uninjured.
Members of the Middle Township Police Department Crash Unit, the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office arrived on scene and conducted an investigation.  The crash remains under investigation.
The Rio Grande Fire Company, Cape May Court House Fire Company and Middle Township EMS also responded.
