COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER ISSUES NEW, ENHANCED ORDER
The LA County Health Officer issued a new, enhanced order to be consistent with the Governor’s “Stay at Home” Order. The new order instructs all persons to remain in their homes or places of residence, prohibits all gatherings and events, indoor or outdoor, public or private, and orders that all non-essential businesses must close. The order is in effect to April 19, 2020. The order does not prohibit individuals or families from engaging in outdoor activities, such as walking, hiking, biking, shopping at essential businesses or picking up meals, provided social distancing is observed.

NPS CLOSES SOLSTICE CANYON; MRCA CLOSES ALL PARKS & FACILITIES; COUNTY CLOSES ALL MALIBU BEACH PARKING LOTS
On Sunday, the National Park Service (NPS) began the closure of Solstice Canyon and is working with the LA County Sheriff’s Dept to limit roadside parking.

The Mountains Recreations & Conservation Authority (MRCQA) announced on Sunday that, effective immediately, all MRCA-operated parks, trails, and building facilities, including public restrooms, are closed until further notice to protect the health and safety of the public. This includes all parks that are owned by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in the Malibu area. The Sheriff’s Dept announced Monday that, in accordance with Governor Newsom’s mandate, and to bolster the protective measures set forth by the State and County, effective immediately, all beach parking lots will be closed in the City of Malibu until further notice. The intent is to support the residents of Malibu and discourage non-residents from visiting its beaches during the COVID-19 crisis. This sanction will remain in place until this crisis abates.

CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS HOW TO PROTECT SEPTIC SYSTEMS
Residents whose homes use Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), also known as septic systems, should avoid flushing disposable wipes and certain other harmful items down the toilet. Many types of personal wipes and solid hygiene products do not fall apart in buildings’ drainpipes, and can clog septic system pipes and pumps. Under “Safer at Home” orders, Malibu residents are spending more time in their homes and using more potentially harmful products, all of which increases the need for residents to keep a closer eye on their septic systems. FILM OFFICE NOT PROCESSING FILM PERMIT APPLICATIONS
Following the lead of FilmLA, the Malibu Film Office will not be considering or processing film permit applications until further notice.

GAS COMPANY CONDUCTING EMERGENCY SERVICES ONLY
SoCalGas is making some temporary changes to its customer service operations consistent with guidance from public health officials. The Gas Co will continue to make essential and emergency service appointments, including reports of suspected natural gas leaks, carbon monoxide checks, gas meter turn-ons, natural gas outage and pilot re-lights, but is temporarily suspending appliance check-ups and non-essential service calls, such as inoperative pool heaters, barbecues, and fire pits. SoCalGas is also committed to assisting customers affected by COVID-19. Last week, it suspended service disconnections until further notice, meaning no customer will have their natural gas turned off due to non-payment. Dial-a-Ride is operating for seniors needing transportation to medical appointments or other necessary locations. Reservations can be made by calling 424-346-8444. Dial-a-Ride program hours are Monday through Wednesday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and Thursday and Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

CORONAVIRUS PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE
The City of Malibu continues to monitor the status of the Coronavirus and implement measures to protect public health and safety and is doing everything possible to support vulnerable community members.  The City continues to follow the recommendations of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH), California Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is taking steps to reduce the likelihood of community spread. 

All Residents should be complying with the State’s “Stay at Home” order, and leaving their homes only to conduct essential business, such as grocery shopping, medical appointments. Residents should also connect with neighbors, particularly seniors or those with underlying health conditions, to see if they need help in any way.
