Advisory

What "illegal acts under state of emergency" means to you. Tolls for Cross Island Parkway suspended at 10:00 tonight.

Good Evening,

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office would like to thank Beaufort County residents for continuing to remain calm and courteous with one another through the coronavirus (COVID-19) threat. This advisory is to provide you with clarification on the law "illegal acts under state of emergency" now in effect through Governor McMaster's declaration of a state of emergency due to coronavirus (COVID-19). We appreciate you continuing to read below.

What "illegal acts under state of emergency" means to you

Under Section 16-7-10 of the South Carolina Code of Laws "illegal acts under state of emergency," it is unlawful for people to "congregate, unless authorized or in their homes, in groups of three or more and to refuse to disperse upon order of a law enforcement officer;" or "willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any law enforcement officer." We are empathetic to our community, and ask for your continued compliance with this and all laws, so that we may get past the stressful coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic safer and quicker. For additional information on Section 16-7-10 and its enforcement, please see the below link and the attached document "SLED GUIDANCE ON THE ENFORCEMENT OF EXECUTIVE ORDER 2020-10"
