SCPD Operational Changes Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

In an effort to keep both members of the Suffolk County Police Department and members of the public safe during the COVID-19 outbreak, several operational changes are being put into place in an effort to limit person-to-person contact for the foreseeable future.
The SCPD asks any resident who is feeling ill not respond in person to a police precinct or police headquarters. Instead, call 911 and disclose all health concerns and symptoms to enable officers to prepare and protect themselves and the community. While the seven precincts will remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the department is encouraging people to only visit if critically necessary. Fingerprinting services will not be available.
There will also be limited access to the lobby at Suffolk County Police Headquarters, located at 30 Yaphank Ave. in Yaphank until further notice.
If you need to file a police report, there are still several options. Select incidents—including harassing communications, lost property, criminal mischief, non-criminal property damage, minor motor vehicle crashes, identity theft and some larcenies— can be reported online in both English and Spanish at or via phone at 631-852-COPS.
If an online report is not possible, an officer will be dispatched to your location. Please keep in mind the following changes while awaiting the assigned officer:

  • The department is experiencing high call volume and expects the need for our services to increase as the situation evolves. You may experience longer than normal wait times.
  • Officers have been directed to wear personal protective equipment—goggles, masks, gloves and protective gowns—in certain circumstances and to avoid entering buildings unless absolutely necessary. As such, you may be asked to meet the officer outside your home or business to report an incident.
To retrieve reports and records, including incident reports, motor vehicle accident reports and background checks, they can be requested online at Motor vehicle accident reports may also be obtained at (additional fees apply on this website). If you do not have a computer, call 631-852-6015 to talk to a staff members. Reports CANNOT be obtained at precincts or other police facilities.
The Alarm Management Program will remain closed until further notice. The present status of your alarm will remain the same.
The Pistol License Section at Police Headquarters will be open for Purchase orders only. Pistol license applications can be found on line at and can be submitted online or via U.S. mail. For more license inquiries, call 631-852-6575.
