This morning, the Sheriff's Office was made aware of a suspicious social media post that was believed to involve Battery Creek High School. The two subjects involved in the social media post—both students at Battery Creek—were located and interviewed by Sheriff's Office investigators.

The interviews of the two students revealed that a male student had a hunting rifle in his pickup truck on school property yesterday afternoon. The rifle was photographed by another male student and posted on social media with the caption "at school with it". There is no indication that the student with the rifle in his truck had any intention of harming students or staff.

Regardless of whether the student had any intention of violence, having a firearm/weapon on school property violated state law. The case—including possible criminal charges—remains under investigation.
