Man Arrested for DWI Under Leandra’s Law
Suffolk County Police last night arrested a man in Holtsville for Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law after he was pulled over on the Long Island Expressway for speeding.
Thomas Zuckerman was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima at excessive speed eastbound on the Long Island Expressway with a 15-year-old girl in the vehicle at approximately 1:55 a.m. A Highway Patrol officer initiated a traffic stop for speeding near Exit 63 and arrested Zuckerman at the scene. The 15-year-old was released to a family member. There were no injuries.
Sixth Squad detectives charged Zuckerman, 19, of 40 Avenue D, Lake Ronkonkoma, with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Zuckerman will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 20.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
