Woman Arrested for Leandra’s Law Following Crash with Five Children in Vehicle
Suffolk County Police last night arrested a woman in Deer Park for driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law following a crash with her 13-year-old daughter and four other children in the vehicle.
Jacquelin Moore was driving a 2012 Mercedes Benz on Acorn Street, near Half Hollow Road, when she crashed the vehicle into a utility pole at approximately 10:10 p.m. A 16-year-old female passenger was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The four other passengers, 15, 13 and 12-year-old females, and a 7-year-old male were not injured. The children were released to the custody of family members.
First Squad detectives charged Moore, 47, of 2 Dix Circle, with Driving While Intoxicated, four counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She is being held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 1.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
