Delivery Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Suffolk County Police today arrested an AutoZone delivery man after he struck two pedestrians, killing one, in North Babylon.

Donnell Hicks was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram work van when he struck Ann Marie Christina and Eric Krems in front of AutoZone, located at 1295 Deer Park Ave., at 1:04 p.m. Hicks did not stop, and continued traveling northbound on Deer Park Avenue while dragging Christina, who was caught underneath the vehicle. Hicks made a right hand turn onto Shade Street in Deer Park. Christina became dislodged from the van and came to rest in the roadway. Hicks continued on his route.

Christina, 38, of East Quogue, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead. Krems, 40, was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation revealed Hicks might be at the AutoZone, located at 595 Portion Rd, Ronkonkoma. Police responded to the location and located Hicks at 1:57 p.m.

Hicks, 26, of 145-22 232nd Street, Springfield Garden, Queens, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 30.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
