Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive in the swimming pool of a Fire Island restaurant last night.

Marine Bureau officers responded to Canteen at Fire Island Pines after a 911 call reported a man had been found unconscious in the swimming pool at approximately 7:05 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Carlos F. Medina unconscious and unresponsive. Medina was transported by boat to Marine Bureau Headquarters at Timber Point where he was transferred to an ambulance and transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Medina, 32, of Manhattan, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The death does not appear to be criminal in nature.
