Advisory

Reminders to ensure all of our residents have a safe & happy 4th of July!

As we continue to prepare for all of the festivities of 4th of July, we also continue to remind our residents that fireworks are not authorized in the City of Lancaster or in the unincorporated areas of our City.

We take this time to remind our residents:

1. Fireworks are not authorized/illegal in the CITY OF LANCASTER. That is a city ordinance that changes from city to city. What is legal/authorized in Palmdale, does not apply to Lancaster.

2. The City of Lancaster is hosting a wonderful, free firework display on the 4th of July at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. For more information, visit the fairgrounds webpage at www.avfair.com.

3. Not only are fireworks not legal in our city, we ask our residents to be respectful of their neighbors. Fireworks, especially the ones that shoot up in the air and explode can be very scary to dogs, cats and horses. Don't forget our Veterans who may suffer from PTSD and seniors too. Instead of an enjoyable holiday, some residents spend their day frightened.

4. We promise, we do our best.
4th of July is hands down, one of the busiest days of the year for our station. In 2018, our station handled over 700 calls for service, with over 200 of those being firework related incidents. Our deputies do all they can to get to every call as quickly as possible, so please be patient with us. A baby not breathing or a house being broken into will take priority over a firework call.

5. Don't forget about your dispatchers! Those 700 calls were calls TYPED in, not calls answered! Our dispatchers work as diligently as they can to get to answer every phone call as quickly and efficiently as they can as well.

6. If you do find yourself having to call us, please remember 9-1-1 is for emergencies only. For non life threatening calls, please dial (661) 948-8466. Give our dispatchers the best information and description you can, so our patrol units can get to the right location.

7. Finally, please DO NOT drink and drive. We say it often - there are so many options, there is no reason to drive intoxicated, buzzed or under the influence of marijuana.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July!

Lancaster Sheriff’s Station polices the City of Lancaster, Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, and the unincorporated communities of Antelope Acres, Lake Los Angeles, and Quartz Hill in the Antelope Valley.
