Man Arrested for DWI under Leandra’s Law
Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law after he was pulled over in Farmingville for a traffic stop with his 3-year-old son in car.
Arash Haghani was driving a 2016 Nissan sedan westbound on Portion Road when a Sixth Precinct Patrol officer observed the vehicle failing to maintain its lane of travel and striking the roadside curb at approximately 12:25 a.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop.
Haghani, 38, of 68 N. Morris Ave., Farmingville, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The 3-year-old was released to his mother at the scene. There were no injuries.
Haghani will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 18.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
