Two People Arrested in SLA Inspection
Suffolk County Police First Precinct Crime Section, in conjunction with First Precinct Community Support Unit officers, First Precinct Patrol officers, the Town of Babylon Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, the Town of Babylon Fire Marshall, the Town of Babylon Building Inspector, and the Town of Babylon Code Enforcement officers, conducted a SLA Inspection at Channel Grocery & Deli, located at 377 Oak Street, in Copiague on February 1 at 9:33 p.m. The findings were as follows:
First Precinct Crime Section officers arrested a male and a female during the SLA Inspection:
- Steward Tiburcio-Castillo, 29, of Brentwood (Manager of Deli) was charged with Promoting Gambling, a Class A Misdemeanor and Possession of Gambling Devices, a Class A Misdemeanor.
- Luz Nunez, 51, of Brentwood (employee at Deli) was charged with six counts of Off Premise Beer/Allowing Consumption of Beer on Premise, an Unclassified Misdemeanor, and three counts of Disorderly Premise, an Unclassified Misdemeanor.
The Town of Babylon Quality of Life Task Force issued 23 combined Building, Fire and Code Violations to the manager. As a result of the violations the establishment was condemned and closed.
Tiburcio-Castillo and Nunez will be arraigned at a later date.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
