Advisory

Summary of Sheriff P.J. Tanner's 11:30 a.m. press conference. Please continue to monitor Hurricane Florence's path.

As of this time, there is no evacuation order for Beaufort County. If residents and guests feel uncomfortable and are in a position to leave ahead of Hurricane Florence, we strongly recommend they do so and head South into Georgia or Florida.

Based on current forecasts, low-lying areas of Beaufort County that experienced flooding during hurricanes Matthew and Irma may experience the same, or potentially worse, impacts. Those who choose to stay during the storm should be prepared for water surge, power outages and downed trees.

Beaufort County residents and guests can expect to see Sheriff's Office deputies, South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, as well as personnel from the South Caroliina Probation, Pardon and Parole, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Army National Guard at traffic control points on U.S. 278 and U.S. 21. Those personnel are monitoring traffic flow on those two roads and are prepared to implement lane reversals, only if necessary.

Currently, driving is not being restricted in Beaufort County and all bridges to access Beaufort County's barrier Islands are open.

Attached is the 11:00 a.m. projected path of Hurricane Florence from the National Hurricane Center. Residents and guests are encouraged to follow the projected path of the storm through https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Governor Henry McMaster will hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. today to address South Carolina residents and guests on Hurricane Florence. We appreciate you staying informed on developments of the storm through official sources. Please avoid misinformation spread through social media.
