Yesterday an arborist was killed while cutting a tree down in west Healdsburg. Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies received the call shortly before 3:00 PM and responded to the 1300 block of W. Dry Creek Road. Upon arrival they learned that a man named Luis Garcia, 48 of Santa Rosa was attempting to cut a tree down with a chain saw when the tree snapped unexpectedly and fell on him. Garcia is the owner of a private tree service company.
Two witnesses, who were employees of Garcia’s, ran to his aid and attempted CPR but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Based on the fact this was an industrial accident, the investigation was turned over to the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
