Cases of Community Interest

Below are a few cases from the past week that may be of community interest
 
Case 18-38890           Felony Battery
On July 11th at 12:43 am, a resident of the 2300 block of Oregon Street called for police assistance involving a group of intoxicated people in front of his home.  While on the phone with police dispatch, the resident was attacked by the unknown suspects—knocking him unconscious.  The resident (a 70 year old male) was seriously injured during the attack and has since been treated and released from a local hospital.
 
Witnesses describe the suspects as light skinned male, about 25-30 years old along with an unknown female—last seen driving a light colored newer model compact sedan.

Case 18-39489           Suspect Arrested After Officer Witnesses Cell Phone Robbery
On July 13th at 10 pm, a patrol officer was driving on Telegraph Avenue (between Channing Way and Durant Avenue) when he saw a young woman fall to the ground.  The woman quickly got up and ran toward a man—yelling that he had just stolen her phone.  When the suspect saw the officer approaching in his patrol vehicle, the suspect starting running.  After chasing the suspect on foot, officers caught up with the suspect on the 2400 block of Channing Way.
 
The suspect (Michael Douglas Hornsby, Male, 29 years old, Homeless) was arrested for robbery and resisting arrest).
 
Case 18-39743           Suspect Arrested after Cell Phone Robbery
On July 15th at 6:30 am, a resident was on her way to way to the BART station—talking on her cell phone as she walked down Bancroft Way.  When she reached the corner of Bancroft Way and Fulton Street, a shirtless man came from across the street and grabbed her by the forearm.  The man took her phone and began to pull on her arm.  The woman was able to break free and run away.  The man chased after the woman—trying to grab her several more times.
 
Thankfully, a person driving by saw the woman in distress and stopped to help.  The Good Samaritan then brought the woman to the police department.
 
Shortly thereafter, officers located the suspect (Deshaun Montgomery, Male, 27 years, Homeless) in the area of Bancroft Way and Fulton Street—where he was arrested for robbery, kidnapping, threats, resisting arrest and violation of probation.
 
Case 18-39980           Suspect Arrested after Occupying Elmwood Neighborhood Home
On July 16th at 1247 hours, a resident (currently out of town) requested that officers check his house in the Elmwood Neighborhood.  According to the resident, he received a telephone call from his house cleaning service that an unknown man answered the door when they went to the house in the morning.  The unknown man told the cleaning service that he was working on the house and that they could have the day off.
 
When officers arrived, they discovered an unlatched window and entered the house.  As they searched inside, officers heard the sound of running water and located the suspect after just stepping out of the shower.
 
After being taken into custody, officers located a quantity of methamphetamine in the suspect’s belongings.  Officers later learned that the suspect had also taken the resident’s 2016 Tesla Model X to go shopping during the course of his stay.
 
The suspect (Eddie Lee Lankford III, Male, 35 years old, Homeless) was arrested for trespassing, possession of controlled substances, stealing a vehicle, and violation of probation.
 
Case 18-40165           Burglars Arrested
On July 17th at 1:21 pm, officers responded to an apartment on the 1700 block of Fifth Street on a report of attempted break-in.  According to the resident, they heard a loud sound and saw two suspects running from their backyard—eventually getting into a Chevy Malibu.
 
While on his way to the area, an officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle stopped in the eastbound lanes of University Avenue (just east of Sacramento Street)—with two suspects walking away from the vehicle to a nearby gas station.  The officer then stopped the two suspects and called for emergency assistance.  The suspects (listed below) were consequently arrested for burglary.
