Man Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a man on the Long Island Expressway.

A 2010 Honda Sedan driven by Anthony Robitaille and 2012 BMW sedan driven by Kristian Urquiza were stopped on the right shoulder of the Long Island Expressway, just east of exit 53, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on April 22. Both drivers were outside of their vehicles when a 2013 Ford sedan, driven by Desirea Coyle, struck the rear of the Honda. The Honda then struck the BMW and Robitaille.

Robitaille, 27, of Centereach, was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Coyle, 33, of Highland Falls, NY, was transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries. A passenger in the BMW sustained minor injuries and declined treatment. Urquiza, 25, of Brentwood, was not injured.

The three vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing.
