Man Arrested in SLA Inspection
Suffolk County Police arrested a man and issued another man a field appearance ticket after conducting State Liquor Authority (SLA) inspections on April 6, 2018 in the town of Babylon, New York.
Due to numerous community complaints, the First Precinct Crime Section, Town of Babylon Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Town of Babylon Fire Marshall, Town of Babylon Building Inspector and the Town of Babylon Code Enforcement conducted SLA inspections and investigations into the sale of cigarettes to minors at three businesses with an underage police agent. The police agent purchased alcoholic beverages and cigarettes from two of the targeted businesses within the Town of Babylon.
The following businesses did comply with the New York State Liquor Authority:
- Bing’s Smoke Shop & Grocery Inc., 1002 Montauk Hwy, Copiague, NY
- Mc Dollar Express, 1648 Great Neck Road, Copiague, NY sold alcoholic beverages as well as cigarettes to an underage police agent.
- Flame Grocery Inc., 500 Oak Street, Copiague, NY sold alcoholic beverages as well as cigarettes to an underage police agent.
Mohammad A. Iqbal, 39, of Central Islip, an employee at Flame Grocery Inc., was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (concentrated cannabis), NYS PL 260.20-Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree, ABC Law 65.1-Sale to Person Under 21, SCC 792-3(A2) Sale of Tobacco Products to Person Less than 21, ABC Law 105.22 Disorderly Premise (an Unclassified Misdemeanor), NYS PL 225.05 Promoting Gambling (a Class A Misdemeanor), and NYS PL 225.30.2 Possession of Gambling Devices (a Class A Misdemeanor.)
The Town of Babylon Quality of Life Task Force issued 13 combined Building, Fire and Code Violations to the owner. As a result of the violations the establishment was condemned and closed.
The defendants will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 11, 2018.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
