On December 14^th, 2017 at approximately 7:05 PM, members of the Middle Township Street Crimes Unit were conducting surveillance in the Rio Grande section of the Township.  While doing surveillance officers observed 2 subjects wrestling next to a 2012 GMC Acadia with the rear hatch open in the Rio Grande Fire House parking lot.   The subjects then got up and got into the vehicle without closing the hatch and pulled onto New York Avenue and then to Route 47 headed north.  The officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle and located it in the left turn lane at the intersection of Route 47 and Railroad Avenue.  As the officers approached the intersection, there was a vehicle in between them and the GMC Acadia.  As the officers came to a stop, the passenger of the GMC Acadia got out of the vehicle and crossed Railroad Avenue to the corner where Mr. Tire is located.  The driver of the GMC Acadia then revved the engine and drove across railroad avenue and intentionally struck the passenger.  The driver, Robert Gregory 3^rd, age 37 of Erma, then fled the scene.  He was later located in the old concrete plant.  The victim, Michael Gregory, age 36 of Erma, had multiple injuries and was flown to ACMC City Division where he was listed in stable but critical condition.  
 
Robert Gregory 3^rd was charged with Attempted Murder, 1^st Degree, Aggravated Assault, 2^nd Degree, Assault with a Vehicle, 3^rd Degree, Endangering an Injured Victim, 3^rd Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury, 3^rd Degree, and DWI and other various motor vehicle offenses.  Robert Gregory 3rd was lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
  
The Middle Township Fatal Crash Team, Middle Township Major Crimes Unit, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Middle Township EMS and the Rio Grande Fire Department assisted on scene.
