Incident:         Man in Critical Condition after One-Car Crash
 
Location:        County Road 51 and County Road 111, Eastport, New York
 
Date/Time:     Monday, December 11, 2017 at approximately 2:50 p.m.
 
Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a man in Eastport, New York, this afternoon.
 
Matthew Hillebrand was driving a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on County Road 51 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road, struck a metal utility pole and caught on fire at approximately 2:50 p.m. The fire spread quickly. Passing motorists, including a member of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, pulled Hillebrand from the burning car. Hillebrand, 47, of Babylon, New York, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is in critical condition.
 
The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
