Advisory

Nautica Malibu Triathlon: Sat & Sun, Sept 16-17, 7AM-12PM

The Nautica Malibu Triathlon will bring approximately 5000 participants to Malibu on Saturday and Sunday, September 16-17, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

Caltrans has permitted the following lane closures on PCH for the event:

  • Saturday, 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM, No. 2 lane in both directions, Busch Dr to Deer Creek Rd
  • Sunday, 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM, No. 2 lane in both directions, Busch Dr to Beach Access Rd (at Leo Carillo State Park)
During the event, traffic will be restricted along PCH from Decker Rd to Busch Dr, including the following intersections: Busch Dr, Westward Beach Rd, Merritt Dr, Morning View Dr, Guernsey Ave, Trancas Cyn Rd, Broad Beach Rd, Lunita Rd, Encinal Cyn Rd, and Decker Cyn Rd.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies and event crews will be directing traffic and provide traffic control.

Malibu Park Detour
Motorists are advised to avoid PCH from Busch Drive to Trancas Cyn from 7:00 to 9:00 AM.  Residents entering or existing Malibu Park can use Bonsall Dr to avoid event traffic. For those exiting Malibu Park heading east, an officer will be placed at the intersection of Bonsall and PCH to assist with left turns onto PCH (eastbound turns will be allowed for event weekend only). Do not use Guernsey, Busch Dr or Morning View Dr as they will all have traffic control and will have heavy bike traffic during those hours. To access Bonsall within Malibu Park, the detour will utilize Rainsford Pl.

Metro Bus Line 534
Metro Bus Line 534 will be cut short by 2.5 miles before its normal ending at Trancas Cyn while PCH is barricaded for the event.

Parking Restrictions
Temporary "No Parking" areas will be marked on Westward Beach Rd and the northwest shoulder of Trancas Cyn Rd (between PCH and La Gloria Dr).

Motorists should allow extra time and use caution when driving along the event route. Expect delays and use alternate routes, if possible.
