On Wednesday, September 13th at 0443 hours, our officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was just stolen from the victim’s driveway in the area of Hazard and Jackson. The suspect led our officers in a brief pursuit that covered a little more than a mile to the area of Hawley and 5th Street. The suspect crashed the victim’s vehicle into several small poles and a parked vehicle in the open parking lot.
It appears based on the initial investigation; the suspect attempted to jump out of the moving vehicle and was run over by the left rear tire of the vehicle. No officers or innocent bystanders were injured during this investigation.
As a result of the collision, the driver suffered severe internal injuries and OCFA responded to the scene to treat his injuries. He was later transported to UCI Medical Center in critical condition. Suspect Hernandez faces charges of Possession of stolen property, Grand Theft Auto, Felony Evading and Possession of Narcotics.
