Modesto, CA – Detectives are investigating an assault that turned deadly in a northeast Modesto neighborhood.

At about 8:15 p.m., officers responded to Orchard Park Way south of Floyd Avenue on reports of an assault. When they arrived, they found 31-year-old David Reyes with a gunshot wound to his leg. Reyes was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

As detectives piece together the events that led to the shooting, the early information suggests that the victim and suspect(s) involved may have been familiar with each other.
