Modesto, CA – A suspect was arrested in connection with an assault that turned deadly in a northeast Modesto neighborhood.

At about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, officers responded to Orchard Park Way, south of Floyd Avenue, on reports of an assault. When they arrived, they found 31-year-old David Reyes with a gunshot wound to his leg. Reyes was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

On Friday, 24-year-old Javier Carrillo of Modesto was arrested during the service of several search warrants throughout Stanislaus County. Carrillo was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for murder.

Today, search warrants were continued as detectives identified a second suspect, 20-year-old Alberto Delacruz, who may have been involved in the incident. Delacruz was not located during today’s search and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

As detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting, the early information suggests that the victim and suspect(s) involved may have been familiar with each other.
