SAPD Collision Investigation Unit - Investigating Auto vs. Pedestrian 3500 West MacArthur
On 11/5/2016 at 0015 hours, officers responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision at 3500 W. MacArthur Blvd. The calling parties indicated the pedestrian was lying in the roadway, bleeding from the head and was not moving.
Officers and OCFA responded to the scene. The male juvenile pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries.
The involved driver remained at the scene and provided a statement to investigators. The preliminary information indicates that two pedestrians were crossing the intersection of MacArthur Blvd. at the Home Depot driveway diagonally when one of the pedestrians was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on MacArthur Blvd. Moments after the initial collision, the pedestrian was struck a second time by another vehicle traveling westbound.
The driver of the initial vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. That driver did not display any objective symptoms of impairment.
The driver of the second vehicle fled from the scene. That vehicle is described as a dark colored SUV.
