HCSO: Sheriff and Local Dealership to Help Mother of Four, Victim of Crime

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A single mother of four, and the caretaker of a special needs child, was the recent victim of an online scam. She recently answered an ad selling a 2009 Honda Pilot on Craigslist from a male posing as the owner.

After paying $6000 for the vehicle, she attempted to title the Honda at the Tax Assessor’s Office, where she was informed that the Honda was stolen in July of this year from the Clear Lake Infiniti dealership.

Chief Bill Smith of the Harris County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office of Special Investigations Unit assigned a Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Investigator, detailed to the Tax Assessor’s Office, to investigate the matter.

Now, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman and Clear Lake Infiniti are teaming up to help the victim and educate the public.

At a 2:00 PM ceremony, Sheriff Hickman will join representatives from Clear Lake Infiniti as they donate the recovered vehicle to the woman in need.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 16, 2016 – 2:00 PM
WHERE: Clear Lake Infiniti - 14705 Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77034

Craigslist and other online marketplaces are frequently used to fence stolen property. Sheriff Hickman and investigators urge private citizens to use caution when making large purchases in private sales.
