HCSO: Homeless Outreach Team Operation Clearlake

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – On Tuesday, Sheriff Ron Hickman, the HCSO Command Staff and deputies held a community town hall meeting with over 400 attendees from Clearlake and HCSO Patrol District III. Chief among the community’s concerns was the rate of homelessness and panhandling in and throughout the Clearlake area.

On Saturday, August 13, and Sunday August 14, the Harris County Sheriff’s Homeless Outreach Team (H.O.T.) will be conducting an operation in the vicinity to provide services to the area’s homeless population and address the concerns of the community.

WHEN: August 13-14, 2016
WHERE: I-45 to Space Center BLVD (West-East), El Dorado BLVD to Nasa PKWY (North-South)

A five man H.O.T. team will patrol parks, roadways and encampments in the area to identify homeless individuals using a mobile AFIS scanner and assist those identified with access to identification, temporary housing, personal hygiene supplies, water and access to area supportive services.

HCSO H.O.T. focuses on providing services to the estimated 4,500 homeless individuals living in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. H.O.T. works with a coalition of community based service providers to provide access to housing, medical care, substance abuse treatment and mental health care.

The HCSO H.O.T. team was developed by Sheriff Hickman in November 2015 with the financial assistance of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Foundation. Since inception the team has responded to 843 calls for service, made 729 contacts, transported 166 individuals to temporary housing, and secured permanent housing for 63 individuals.
