SAPD Traffic Investigators Respond To Fatal Collision – Motorcycle Vs. Street Sweeping Vehicle

Deceased Motorcycle Driver: Mateus Castro (25) Santa Ana

On 10/1/15, officers responded to the scene of a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a street sweeper on Red Hill Avenue just south of Warner Avenue.

At about 0609 am, the 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle Mateus Castro was riding traveled south on Red Hill from the intersection at Warner. For unknown reasons, the rider struck the rear of a street sweeping vehicle which was stopped facing south along the curb on Red Hill. The motorcycle became lodged to the rear body panel of the sweeper vehicle and the rider was ejected from the bike.

Responding paramedics pronounced the rider, Castro, deceased at the scene. The driver of the sweeper vehicle remained at the scene where he cooperated throughout the investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
