PRESS CONFERENCE THIS MORNING : HCSO Cold Case Unit Charge Suspect in 2009 Fatal Shooting.

( HOUSTON, TX) - Sheriff Ron Hickman and HCSO Cold Case investigators will hold a news conference today, Friday, July 17,2015 to announce the charging of a suspect from a 2009 murder.

The Sheriff and deputies will be joined by the victim’s family on the 6th anniversary of their loved one’s death.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division Cold Case Unit have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at 345 west Richey Road at the now defunct Club Tranz at around 3:30 am on July 25, 2009.

The suspect, Shedrick Orell Rhine (DOB 03/15/79) is in custody and now charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court. The victim, James D Thomas, 36, suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Thomas and two other security personnel were working the front entrance to the night club.

Rhine was involved in altercation inside and was escorted out of club by security.

Investigator said, Rhine, angry over the incident walked to his vehicle retrieved a handgun, and fired into the crowd of patrons and security personnel.

Justin Jones and Thurston Kessee, were standing with Thomas, and were struck by gunfire.

Jones and Keese both survived their injuries. Rhine then fled the scene.

At the time of the shooting, there were no known suspects.

Recently, while conducting a cold case review in March of 2012, a possible suspect was identified. Information obtained was enough for investigators to charge Rhine with the murder of James Thomas .

Rhine was taken into custody without incident.
