Update:

The situation has been resolved, the device was found not to be hazardous.  The request for community members to shelter in place is lifted. 

The intersection is now open to traffic.

We appreciate your understanding and assistance during this incident. 

Original Message:

Berkeley Police (BPD) are alerting residents to a dangerous situation.  BPD is currently assisting Albany Police Department on an Investigation near the intersection of San Pablo and Gilman Street. 

During their investigation a potentially hazardous device was located, as a precaution we are asking residents to shelter in place at this time while the investigation is completed. 

The intersection is closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. 

We will update you as more information becomes available.
