Berkeley Police Investigating Sexual Assault

Berkeley, California (Wednesday, June 25, 2014) - On Sunday, June 22, 2014 at approximately 2:02 a.m., The Berkeley Police Department (BPD) received a report of a sexual assault.  Officers contacted the victim, a woman in her early 30s, regarding the incident.  The victim reported she was walking alone on a side street, west of the 2300 block of Telegraph Avenue, when she was attacked from behind by an unknown suspect. The suspect knocked her to the ground, committed a sexual assault, and fled the area.

The suspect was described as a mixed race male, 30’s, 6 ft, muscular to heavy build, short hair, wearing a jacket.

Investigators are actively working on this case, reviewing evidence, seeking out witnesses, and searching for any additional evidence. Patrol Officers are aware of the incident and providing extra patrols in the area.  We have shared information regarding this investigation with the UC Berkeley Police Department.  Community members are encouraged to call BPD to report any suspicious persons or activity.
