MAN SENTENCED TO 60 YEARS FOR 1994 MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND
(HOUSTON, TX) - A Harris County jury has convicted Christopher Stoernell to 60 years in prison for the 1994 murder of his girlfriend, 17 year-old Ruth Majewski.
Earlier today the same jury convicted Stoernell, 38, of murder for the September 30, 1994 shooting death of the teen.
Ruth Majewski had been at the home of her boyfriend, Christopher Stoernell, at the time of the shooting. Stoernell, also 17 at the time, told investigators that Majewski committed suicide.
After the initial investigation the case went cold and was unresolved.
In February of 2012 the HCSO’s Cold Case Unit reviewed the case and initiated a follow-up investigation. All evidence in the case was reevaluated and analyzed. Original witnesses and newly developed witnesses were located and interviewed. The facts of the investigation were presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Stoernell was charged in the death of Majewski in August of 2013.
Photos of Ms. Majewski and Stoernell are attached.
