HCSO Helicopter Crew Assists Homeowner Wrestling Burglary Suspect

(HOUSTON, TX) - Deputies aboard the HCSO's recently acquired helicopter are being credited with the arrest of a burglary suspect after spotting a homeowner wrestling with the man from the air.

It happened Monday afternoon (March 3, 2014) in the 21000 block of Berryvine in north Harris County.

The HCSO's helicopter was in the air conducting proactive patrol when the call dropped of a burglary in progress.

According to the homeowner, his home was burglarized yesterday and was in the process of moving out today. As he was in the process of moving out, he saw three suspects carrying some of his belongings near the bayou behind his home. The homeowner and his father-in-law confronted the burglary suspects and were able to tackle one of them and hold him until law enforcement arrived.

Sergeant Don Plant and his helicopter crew heard the call and immediately headed over to the area. Within minutes Sgt. Plant was able to spot the homeowners holding down the suspect. He landed the helicopter in an open field next to the home and the deputies aboard ran to put the suspect in handcuffs.

Charges of Burglary Habitation are pending on the captured suspect. Deputies are looking for the two others that got away.

The HCSO's helicopter was donated last year by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
