League City man becomes second defendant in shotgunning of airborne cat (mug shots attached)
Alexander Marsh, 18, of League City, faces a felony charge of cruelty to an animal as a co-defendant in the shooting death of a cat in the Highlands in east Harris County on Saturday. Marsh was not yet in custody this morning.
Joseph D. Morgan, 24, of the Highlands was arrested during the weekend and charged with "cruelty to animal/torture with firearm" following the incident along the San Jacinto River.
The investigation began when the Harris County Sheriff's Office received a complaint about a firearms discharge. A deputy responded to Riverside Street and was told that Morgan had shot a black cat with a rifle. The deputy found the cat's body near the riverbank. He then interviewed Morgan.
Morgan said he had found a stray, sick cat that needed to be euthanized, so he threw the cat into the air and shot it using a shotgun loaded with bird shot. Marsh allegedly participated in those actions.
An invesitgator with the Houston chapter of the SPCA removed the cat's body for autopsy and disposal.
Mug shots of Morgan and Marsh, in that order, are attached.
