HCSO HONORS VETERANS IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE

(HOUSTON, TX) – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is honored to have numerous veterans as part of the HCSO family, as sworn personnel and civilians. This Veteran’s Day and every day we honor them for their service to this country and our community.

More than two dozen HCSO employees who are also veterans of various branches of the United States Military will participate in the 15th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Parade on Monday. Among them will be 93-year-old Lt. Tom Morgan.

Lt. Morgan is an active member of the HCSO’s Reserve Command and a World War II and Korean War veteran. He fought in the battles of Guadalcanal, Saipan, and Okinawa. He also holds the honor of being Texas’ oldest active police officer.

Accompanying our veterans will be a proud Sheriff Adrian Garcia. The parade begins at 12:30 p.m. in downtown Houston. Please visit www.houstontx.gov/nov11/ for more information.

The HCSO continues to actively recruit veterans, including wounded warriors, to join the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office. Since January 2013, the HCSO has hired 75 veterans to work as deputies, detention officers, communication officers, medical personnel and clerks. Interested candidates should apply online by visiting www.hcsojobs.com.

In February, veterans working at the HCSO created the HCSO’s Military Liaison Office (MLO).

The MLO provides various services to HCSO employees who are also active members of the Armed Forces and their families before, during and after deployments. Resources and services provided include care packages for deployed personnel, counseling sessions, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder education, Veteran Affairs Loans certificates, recruiting of wounded veterans, assistance with living and family hardship, and much more.

Currently there are 6 members of the HCSO family deployed in Afghanistan.

For more information about the MLO please visit their Facebook page.
