A Harris County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a male robber this morning at a gas station/convenience store moments after the robber grabbed a money bag and held a female employee by the throat.

The location was a Stripes store at 11720 State Highway 249.

The deputy was dispatched there around 1:45 a.m. in response to a call about a traffic hazard created by a parked vehicle. Apparently the vehicle belonged to the robber. The deputy entered the store and interrupted the robbery.

The robber appeared to try to choke the employee and was ordered by the deputy to stop and show his hands. After throwing a money bag at the deputy, the robber reached into a pocket. Fearing that the robber might brandish a weapon, the deputy fired his gun one time.

An HCSO public information officer provided information to the news media at the scene. Further information will be released only as it becomes available later via
