INVESTIGATION:
On 12/9/11, at approximately 1200 hours, Walnut Creek Police Detectives with Clayton PD served a Search Warrant and Arrest Warrant at Diablo View Middle School and arrested Andrew Bruce Cottrell, who is employed as a math and science teacher at the school. Walnut Creek Police then executed a Search Warrant at his house in Walnut Creek.
Walnut Creek Police Detectives obtained a full confession from Cottrell. Cottrell was booked into Martinez Detention Facility for six counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under 16 (PC 261.5(d)); two counts of lewd acts with a victim who is 15 years or 14 years old (PC 288(c)(1)); nine counts of oral copulation with victim under 16 years old and defendant is over 21 years old (PC 288(a)(b)(2)), and his bail was set at $975,000.
