Collaborative Response Leads to Safe Resolution of Mental Health Crisis on I-80 Overpass in Fairfield
This morning at around 7:30 am, the Fairfield Police Department, in coordination with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), responded to reports of an individual on the eastbound I-80 overpass who appeared to be contemplating self-harm.
Recognizing the individual was likely experiencing a mental health crisis, officers immediately requested assistance from the Solano Mobile Crisis Team — certified first responders trained to assess, de-escalate, and support those in crisis.
While a Mobile Crisis Team member spoke with the individual, officers secured the scene, including a temporary closure of eastbound I-80 to ensure the safety of motorists and those involved.
Following ongoing communication and offers of support, the individual safely stepped away from the ledge and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and care pursuant to a 5150 mental health hold.
The Fairfield Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Solano Mobile Crisis Team, CHP, and the community members who quickly notified emergency personnel. Their combined actions and partnership contributed to a safe and compassionate resolution.
