Woman found unresponsive in surf on Hilton Head Island 
Just before 1 a.m. today, May 18, 2025, deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to Collier Beach Road on Hilton Head Island following a report of an unresponsive woman in the surf.
The 50-year-old woman, who was wearing a wetsuit and had a boogie board still attached to her ankle, was located and pronounced deceased at the scene.
An investigation into her death is currently underway; however, it does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The woman’s identity will be released by the Coroner’s Office pending notification of her next of kin.
