Fatal Traffic Collision Investigation Update - Wednesday, November 6, 2019

On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 6:47 p.m., Patrol and Traffic Officers responded to multiple 911 calls in the area of Stevenson Blvd and Liberty St.  Callers reported a traffic collision had occurred involving a motorcycle and sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Officers arrived and found an unresponsive man (motorcyclist) lying in the eastbound lanes of Stevenson Blvd. near the entrance to the Estates at Park Place.  The man was later identified as 29 year old Joel Vieto, of Fremont. Officers immediately began applying first aid and paramedics arrived a short time later.   Unfortunately, Vieto succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was identified as a 44 year old Fremont resident.  He remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators.  An adult female passenger of the SUV was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries to a local hospital.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor of this collision.  No arrests have been made and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Stevenson Blvd was closed between Fremont Blvd and Paseo Padre Pkwy for several hours.
