A 29 year old man was arrested today on several charges including a hate crime, after stating the victim’s ethnicity was his motive in the unprovoked attack.
This morning shortly after 10:00 a.m., Fremont patrol officers were dispatched to an assault that had just occurred in the 42200 block of Fremont Blvd., near the cross street of Blacow Rd. The caller told dispatchers that a man had hit a female customer in the face and then walked away. As officers responded, dispatch provided more detail regarding the suspect’s description and direction of flight.
When officers arrived they learned the suspect had assaulted the victim twice, once with a rock and a second time with his hand. Witnesses were able to direct officers to where the suspect had last been seen and he was quickly detained.
Trevor Dicks, a 29 year old Fremont transient, was positively identified as the suspect. When questioned, he stated the victim’s ethnicity was his motive for the attack. Dicks was taken into custody and transported to Santa Rita County Jail where he was booked on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon, a probation violation and hate crime. It was later learned that Dicks had also assaulted a female employee at a second business in the area today, and an additional charge of battery was added.
