Sheriff's HOPE Team connects 7-day old infant and family with services

DATE/TIME: July 16, 2019             11:00 a.m.

INCIDENT: 7-day old infant and family connected with services

LOCATION: Highland

SUMMARY:
On July 16, 2019 the Sheriff’s H.O.P.E team conducted a routine outreach to the homeless population in the City of Highland. The H.O.P.E team continually works with the homeless population to connect them with community resources to move individuals and families beyond homelessness.

During the outreach, a concerned citizen informed the team of a family with a newborn child living in a flood control area. Deputies began to search the area to locate the family as the temperature was over 100 degrees. The family was located in a secluded area with water and shade. The infant was found to be 7 days old.

The family had the basic necessities to care for the child and a battery-operated cooling system for the infant.  The H.O.P.E. team in collaboration with a community provider was able to immediately connect the family with resources to ensure they did not remain on the streets.

The H.O.P.E. team works with all homeless populations to link them with available resources. The team can be contacted at (909)387-0623
