On 07-08-19 the Pomona Police Department-Patrol Division was notified by members of the community about a post being disseminated on a social media outlet, “Facebook-Pomona Patch”.
The Pomona Patch is a dedicated Pomona based outlet where members of the community can talk openly about concerns in the city and spread information related to the city. This specific post depicted a subject discarding a yellow couch in a high traffic alley in the center of the city. The incident was captured on a nearby surveillance system. The cameras clearly show the face and vehicle used to dump the item. This was done in broad daylight. Members of the community searched the area and found the couch.
Pomona Police received a call from concerned citizen about the incident. A Pomona Police Patrol Supervisor was dispatched and conducted follow up. With the information obtained he contacted the Special Investigations Unit. The SIU was able to use the workable information provided by the citizen and the Patrol Supervior to track down the owner of the vehicle. This led to the subject’s house. The team verified the subject was home and conducted a door knock. The subject came to the door and fully consented to the contact. The Investigators were able to positively identify the subject via the video provided from Facebook as well has his admission to the crime. The team escorted the subject back to the scene of the crime, at which point he was asked to load the abandoned couch into his truck. The subject was arrested for the violation and the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The Pomona Police Department takes all crimes seriously. When citizens work with the Police Department and can provide workable information, it quickly brings situations like this to a resolution.
