Patrol officers track down sideshow participants, make two arrests and seize vehicles.

On January 18, 2019 at approximately 10:20 p.m., a Fremont police officer was in the area patrolling the area of Lakeview Boulevard and Fremont Boulevard due to recent reports of illegal street racing activity.  When the officer arrived to the area, they located an active sideshow taking place on Lakeview Court involving approximately 15-20 vehicles.  The officer attempted to pull over a Ford Mustang performing donuts in the roadway.  The Mustang fled and evaded the officer while driving recklessly from the area.

The officer then observed a Toyota FRS driving recklessly from the area enter I880 with no lights on.  The officer observed reckless driving by this vehicle until it turned into the CHP weigh station and parked.  The officer was able to stop the Toyota FRS and detain the occupants.  The driver, Jonathan Xolocotz, a 19 year old San Mateo resident was arrested and booked into Fremont Jail for exhibition of speed and reckless driving.  The Toyota FRS was impounded.

The officer continued to follow up on the illegal sideshow activity and was able to later identify the driver that fled in the Mustang.  He obtained an arrest warrant for Samiuela Palavi, a 19 year old Belmont resident and a vehicle seizure order was granted for the Mustang.  Fremont officers responded to the driver’s residence in Belmont and arrested him for exhibition of speed, reckless driving, and evasion.  He was booked into the Fremont Jail.  The Mustang was seized and impounded for 30 days.

The Fremont Police Department has a zero tolerance approach to illegal street racing and sideshow activity.  The Department will continue to deploy resources to monitor our roadways and actively share information with our law enforcement partners.  We will also continue our efforts of enforcing vehicle modifications violations including smog regulations and exhaust and deploying resources to other cities and counties to assist in these efforts.

If you have any information regarding illegal street racing or sideshow activity, please contact Officer Manrique at [email protected] or for in progress activity, call the Fremont Police Department’s non-emergency line at (510) 790-6800 x 3.
